"These passion fruit plants are from seeds that I got from fruit that I eat while visiting Patrice in California back in December. These were small yellow fruit with a very nice pineapple flavor. These are the passion fruit plants that Patrice grows inside his greenhouse."
I don't know who Patrice is, but I thank him very much for sharing his vines, albeit vicariously through Ed. I haven't done anything with them, since I brought them home, other than keep them watered. I have read that they are rampant climbers, and I really didn't have a good place in mind to plant them.
I was walking the back door after mowing the lawn this weekend, and suddenly noticed the most striking purple flower. The vines have been climbing all over their tomato cage and my oregano, and have been largely ignored until now. Upon closer inspection I noticed at least 10 flower buds getting ready to bloom. Hopefully Dr. Wife will get enough of a break from the kids to take some pictures with her macro lens. The flowers are really bizarre and beautiful, and hopefully they'll set some fruit. I think I'm going to plant them out front and let them use the big pine tree for a trellis.
