My first Republic of Texas orange.
Ok, so I know a small glass of orange juice may not seem like a significant enough topic to merit its own blog post, but this was no ordinary glass of juice. Or at least not to me. Today I picked my first orange from my Republic of Texas orange tree, which I planted in early 2008.
Since I planted the tree, it has grown to almost 7 feet tall, but I've never got any fruit until now. I think I would have more this year if it were not for the terrible freezes this past winter.
So after almost 3 years, I finally picked my one fruit and juiced it. The fruit was juicy, sweet, and seedy, and only mildly acidic with good flavor. I think it was one of the best little glasses of juice I've every had, and I hope to pick and juice many many more next year.
